The Mille miglia programme (5 - 9 May 2010)

Programme No 1 - based in Brescia (Milano area)

Day 1: May 5, Wednesday

Morning arrival at Milan Malpensa airport. Meeting with our Tour Leader and then board our deluxe minibus and transfer to your hotel located in Brescia’s surroundings, in a plush neighbourhood along Lake d’Iseo, in the Franciacorta area or Lake Garda.

Franciacorta is a beautiful area facing lake d’Iseo, famous for its gentle hills covered by vineyards where some of Italy’s best wines are produced, especially white wines and sparking wines, aged in kilometres long underground cellars.

Following your arrival schedule, there will be a stop en route for lunch or a snack and wine tasting.

NB. Budget permitting, the transfer can be in self-driven Ferraris, with separate luggage transportation.

On arrival at the hotel, check into the reserved rooms and enjoy your leisure. Welcome dinner at a Michelin award winning, elegant restaurant. Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 2: May 6, Thursday

Brescia area. Breakfast in the hotel. Day spent in Brescia to assist in the preparation for the race, sealing ceremony and cars presentation and "Mille Miglia" departure.

The ancient town of Brescia, the Roman Brixia, retains the original street plan of the Roman castrum (fort) and is dominated by an ancient castle. It has a rich artistic heritage, ranging from Roman temples to the triumphant Mussolini-era architecture at its main square, Piazza Vittoriale. It is one of the richest towns in Italy.

Lunch is at a de charme restaurant in Brescia.

Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 3: May 7, Friday

Brescia area. Breakfast in the hotel and then departure for an FD self driven rally in cabriolet or vintage cars or Ferraris, along the "castles route", following a road book prepared for your clients, with stops en route for special visits, coffee breaks and lunch.

Late afternoon return back to the hotel and enjoy your leisure.

Dinner at a gourmet restaurant.
Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 4: May 8, Saturday

Brescia area. Breakfast in the hotel, and then departure for an FD tour of the "Food Valley" – homeland of world-famous products such as Parma ham, Parmesan cheese, Balsamic vinegar, and much, much more!
Visit to a diary which produces Parmesan cheese, where you will learn how this famous cheese is made and will have an opportunity to taste it, and then a stop by at a Parma ham producer.

Lunch will be at a de charme, typical restaurant located along River Po banks, in a very picturesque site. It is a famous and fascinating venue, known among gourmets for its precious homemade "culatello di Zibello" ham and other cold cuts.
You will also visit cellars where all these "goodies" aged and learn some secrets about "culatello".

Suggested menu (just to give you an idea how we "spoil" our clients):
Aperitif served in the cellars, with Parmesan cheese "bites", "Strologhino" salami and white bread typical from the area

"Full" tasting of "culatello di Zibello", baked ham, "Spalla di San Secondo" and other local home-made salami, accompanied by hot "focaccia" breads with mushrooms or olives, cheese flans and puff pastry filled with Parmesan cheese
"Tortelli" dumplings with beet greens "Parmigiana" style and "gnocchi" potato dumplings seasoned with tomato sauce and fresh salami
Ice cream gateau with “Amaretto” flavour and homemade tarts
Coffee, wine, mineral water and digestives

Transfer back to the hotel in a deluxe bus with a stop en route for a visit to The Ferrari Museum. www.galleria.ferrari.com . Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

NB. In the evening, it is also possible to assist in welcoming Mille Miglia arrival to Brescia.

Day 5: May 9, Sunday

Brescia area. Breakfast in hotel and then transfer to Milan Malpensa airport. On arrival, check in for your flight home and depart.

NB. In case clients are willing to extend their stay, we can organize additional programmes:

  1. Tour in the so called Motor Valley, including a visit to the Lamborghini Factory and Museum and gourmet stops en route (held only on Friday or Saturday, so other programmes will be re-scheduled)
  2. Ferrari challenge in a racing circuit (other cars can also be used, such as Lamborghini)

Programme No 2 - based in Ferrara area.

Day 1: May 5, Wednesday

Day 2: May 6,, Thursday

Ferrara area. Breakfast in a hotel and then departure for a FD touring in the “ Food Valley” – homeland of world-famous products such as Parma ham, Parmesan cheese, Balsamic vinegar, and much, much more!

Day 3: May 7, Friday

Ferrara. Breakfast in a hotel and then departure for a HD day tour in the Motor Valley, including a visit to Lamborghini Factory and Museum.
Lunch in a de charme country inn featuring dishes prepared with Balsamic vinegar.

A Late afternoon guided tour of Ferrara is also in the offing.

Ferrara, still relatively undiscovered, is one of the region’s greatest walled town. Thanks to political and economic ability of the d’Este family who has dominated the city since the 13th century, it was once one of the richest and most powerful cities in Italy. Much of d’Este legacy is still intact and among the historic treasures remaining are a great cathedral and the Este Castle along with a number of ducal palazzos.

Dinner in Ferrara will follow.

Day 4: May 8, Saturday

Ferrara area. Breakfast in a hotel and then departure for an FD self driven rally in cabriole or vintage cars or Ferraris, in River Po delta.

The Po Delta is the largest river-mouth in Europe, a fascinating and unique aquatic environment known as the Italian Camaruge . It is a winter home to thousands of breeding and migrating birds and you can watch there gulls, coots, bean gees and black terns as well as far rare species as white egret, hen harrier and pigmy cormorant. Here eel find their natural milieu and is still caught using methods like water gates that date back to Roman times.

You will drive following a road book prepared for your clients, with stops en route for special visits, coffee breaks and lunch featuring typical dishes, including the famous eel.

Late afternoon return back to the hotel and then, your leisure.

Farewell dinner in one of the best restaurants in the area.
Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 5: May 9, Sunday

Ferrara area. Bread and Breakfast in a hotel and then transfer to Milan Malpensa airport. On arrival, check in for your flight home and depart.

NB. In case the clients are willing to extend their stay, we can organize additional programmes:

  1. Visits to Imola racing track and wine tour
  2. Ferrari challenge in a racing circuit (other cars can also be used such as Lamborghini, Maserati) or special Safety driving session/competition

Programme No 3 – based in South Tuscany or Umbria

Day 1: May 5, Wednesday

Morning/ afternoon arrival at Rome Fiumicino airport, then a meeting with our Tour Leader. Afterwards, board our deluxe minibus and transfer to your hotel located in south Tuscany or in Umbria. Please note that in that area south Tuscany- Umbria, there are many fantastic plush homes where your clients can be accommodated.

Following your arrival schedule, there will be a stop en route for lunch or a snack and wine tasting.

NB. Budget permitting, the transfer can be in self-driven Ferraris, with separate luggage transportation.

On arrival at the hotel, check into the reserved rooms and enjoy your leisure.
Welcome dinner in a Michelin award winning, elegant restaurant.
Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 2: May 6,, Thursday

Tuscany/ Umbria. Breakfast in the hotel and then departure for an FD wine & food and art tour. Crossing the Crete Senesi, an area characterized by round clay hillocks eroded by heavy rain over the centuries, cypress and pine trees planted to provide windbreaks along roads and around isolated farm and houses, one arrives in Pienza, a once delightful village completely redesigned in 15th century by Pope Pius II and planned as a model Renaissance town. There you will taste the special local, strongly flavoured “pecorino di Pienza” cheese.
In Montalcino, homeland of the precious, long-lasting Brunello wine, you will visit one of the best wineries and its ancient wine cellars followed by wine tasting.
Lunch will be in an elegant, de charme restaurant in Montalcino. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to view and enjoy the romantic, ancient Abbey of Sant’Antimo, famous for its alabasters.

Evening
Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 3: May 7, Friday

Tuscany/ Umbria. Breakfast in the hotel and then departure for an FD self driven rally in cabriole or vintage cars or Ferraris through the Chianti wine district or long Lake Trasimeno, following a road book prepared for your clients, with stops en route for special visits, coffee breaks and lunch.

Late afternoon return back to the hotel and then, your leisure time.

Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 4: May 8, Saturday

Tuscany/ Umbria. Breakfast in the hotel and then a transfer to Buonconvento where Milla Miglia will stop for lunch at a near by locality.

There will also be an afternoon guided tour of Siena following a special itinerary

Farewell dinner will be at one of the best restaurants in the area.
Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 5: May 9, Sunday

Tuscany/ Umbria. Breakfast in the hotel and then a transfer to Rome airport. On arrival, check in for your flight home and depart.

NB. In case the clients are willing to extend their stay, we can organize additional programmes:

  1. Visit to Florence or Cortona or to Perugia
  2. Visit to Mugello’s Ferrari racing track and an eventual Ferrari challenge there.
  3. Tour in 4 x 4
  4. Truffle hunt
